Distinguished and Famous people from Baradine

Baradine's notable connections include a farmer-writer who investigated the Pilliga and a community advocate who worked on the town's economic future. Both drew their interests from the practical life of the district.

📚 Eric Rolls

Eric Rolls lived and farmed at Cumberdeen near Baradine while developing the work that became A Million Wild Acres. His account of the Pilliga combined observation of plants and animals with research into settlement and land use. Its arguments about how the forest developed also prompted debate. His local connection was that of a working farmer and neighbour, giving his writing a close familiarity with the country while leaving later readers room to question his conclusions.

🤝 Ted Hayman

Ted Hayman has served as president of the Baradine and District Progress Association and been recognised in the shire's community awards. In 2012 he described the association's project to turn wood waste into briquettes, with proceeds intended for community work. He also gave evidence to a parliamentary inquiry on public-land management, drawing on his farming and forestry experience. These activities connect local advocacy with practical attempts to develop employment and make use of regional resources.
